Week in Review: April 18th - 22nd

Lower Elementary students had a great week! Third grade students had a blast at Camp McDowell! Look for pictures coming soon!

For language jobs, first grade students practiced identifying suffixes, were introduced to adverbs, and placed commas in the appropriate places among a list of nouns. Second graders wrote sentences with pronouns, placed commas in the appropriate places among a list of nouns, and identified possessive nouns.

For math jobs, first graders worked with math operations (addition, multiplication, subtraction), practiced subtraction facts,  compared numbers, and found unknown variables to complete addition and multiplication problems. Second graders practiced all math operations, practiced division facts, compared numbers, and found unknown variables to solve problems from all operations.

We look forward to the coming week where students will complete plant experiments, discuss the Native American tribes of the Southwest, and continue a study of the different biomes. It will be a great week!

Week in Review: April 11th -15th

We had a wonderful week in Lower Elementary! Students enjoyed working on cultural jobs which included research on the Native Americans of the Plains and North American grasslands biome.

For language jobs, first graders were introduced to suffixes, wrote sentences with prepositions, and placed commas within a sentence to separate a list of nouns. Second graders reviewed possessive nouns, identified the different types of pronouns, and place commas within a sentence to separate a list of nouns. Third graders identified direct objects within a sentence and identified plural and plural possessive nouns.

For math jobs, first graders completed addition, multiplication, and subtraction problems, explored liquid measurement conversions, counted by 3's and 4's, practiced subtraction facts, and completed column addition problems. Second graders completed problems with all operations, completed liquid measurement conversions, solved word problems involving fractions, practiced division facts, and solved place value word problems. Third graders completed problems with all operations, completed liquid measurement conversions, converted decimals to fractions, solved IN/OUT function tables, and solved place value word problems.

For cultural jobs, students completed research on the Native Americans of the plains and the North American grassland biomes. Students also explored the process of pollination of flowering plants.

Week in Review: April 4th-8th

We had a wonderful week in Lower Elementary! Spring is in the air and students enjoyed playing "Secret Agent Tag" in the sunshine during recess!

For language jobs this week, first graders had further practice with prefixes, prepositions, and compound words. Second graders were introduced to possessive nouns, continued working with pronouns, and used a thesaurus to locate synonyms and antonyms of certain words. Third graders discussed cause and effect, used a thesaurus to locate synonyms and antonyms of certain words, and analyzed sentences for subjects, predicates, and direct objects.

For math job this week, first grade students worked with addition, multiplication, and subtraction problems, were introduced to liquid measurement, solved word problems, and practiced their subtraction facts. Second graders worked with division problems and facts, reviewed liquid measurement, and solved two step word problems. Third graders worked with all operations, reviewed liquid measurement, and found the least common multiple of two numbers.

In History, students continued their study of Native Americans by completing research on the Native Americans of the Plains. In Geography, students researched the North American grasslands biome. In Science, students investigated the parts of a flower.

It was a great and busy week!
