Week in Review: January 17th -20th

We had a wonderful week in Lower Elementary! Students were busy at work on language, math, and cultural jobs!

For language jobs, first grade students changed nouns from singular to plural form by adding an -es. They also reviewed homophones and matched cards to identify animals (nouns) with their sounds (verbs). Second graders changed nouns that end in y from singular form to plural form. They also reviewed adverbs and homophones. Third grade students reviewed all plural rules, homophones, and conjunctions.

For math jobs, first grade students completed large addition and multiplication problems and reviewed rounding to the 10's and 100's place. Second grade students focused on completing dynamic subtraction problems and reviewed rounding. Third grade students practiced solving long division problems using the test tube division material, used rounding and estimation to solve problems, and began math and language standardized test prep.

For cultural jobs, students made a prototype of a series and a parallel circuit using string, pushpins, christmas lights, and tape. Students are eagerly awaiting next week when they can make a series and parallel circuit using real wire, batteries, and light bulbs. In history, students revisited a Powerpoint presentation on inventors and identified several famous inventors and their inventions. In geography, students discussed the amount of drinkable water on earth, how water is treated and filtered, and ways to conserve water at school and home.

Week in Review: January 9th - 13th

We had an excellent week in Lower Elementary! Students were busy with jobs and very much enjoyed the warmer weather toward the end of the week.

For language arts jobs, first graders were introduced to homophones and plural words, worked with verbs, and reviewed dictionary skills. Second graders reviewed homophones, adverbs, dictionary skills, plural words, and homophones. Third graders reviewed homophones, conjunctions, dictionary skills, and plural words.

For math jobs, first graders reviewed addition and multiplication problems, rounding numbers, and the fundamental concepts of geometry. Second graders reviewed dynamic subtraction, rounding, and types of lines. Third graders reviewed all math operations, rounding, and the positions of two lines.

For cultural jobs, students were introduced to parallel circuits. Students built parallel circuits using projects from the Snap Circuits Jr. set and then completed a writing comparing series and parallel circuits. In geography, students reviewed the water cycle. In history, students were introduced to famous American inventors.

Next week, students will have more work with homophones, plural words, math operations, rounding, and grammar symbols. Students will begin to design their own series and parallel circuits by creating a prototype. Students will have further work with water cycle and inventors.
