February letter

Dear Parents,February 4, 2013

We absolutely enjoyed seeing you all at Parents’ Night! Your children did an outstanding job showing you the learning and work they do every day.  Hopefully you were able to experience a taste of what a normal day in their lives with us entails.  We welcome you to schedule some time to come by and observe a “real” work day as well.  We would love to have you here again.
A few reminders for you:
Please review the school lunch calendar with your child each night. The calendar can be viewed online (http://jbma.org/Lunch_Menu.html) and in your monthly newsletter.  We have observed many children eating no more than a few pinches of sunflower seeds or just a few pieces of carrot.  You are being charged for an entire meal no matter how much they eat and your child may go hungry for the rest of the day.
The school doors open at 8:00 and learning begins at 8:15.  Many of our students have been "trickling" in at 8:20, 8:25, and later.  This causes issues with your child having a smooth start to their day, with their awareness of any schedule changes for the day, with charging you accurately for their lunch when we do the lunch count, and more.  Please account for morning traffic, morning drop off here at school, as well as allowing time for your child to unpack their backpacks and remove their shoes.  You will be charged for early care if your child enters the building any time before 8:00.
In order to maintain a healthy classroom of students and teachers, please keep your child home if they have a fever, and allow yourchild to be fever free for at least 24 hoursunaided by medication, before they return to school.  Also, if no fever is present however your child clearly feels ill, please allow them to stay home.
Send an extra pair (or two) of socks to be kept in your child’s backpack and names written in coats.
Please ensure that your child’s inside PE shoes still fit well because their feet tend to grow a lot over the winter break.
Ms. Cheryl has requested that all parents send "The Littlest Reindeer" CD back to school in their child's red folder as soon as possible.
We are doing a year-long exploration of Native Americans and would like to invite you to share any artifacts or books you may have or people you may know to enrich our exploration.
If your child chooses to participate in shares, they are only able to bring one item or three items belonging to a collection.
Please go to our blog: http://lower-elementary.blogspot.com and enter your e-mail address in the box to the right to receive an e-mail anytime there is a blog post by one of the teachers.
