The First Week of School

We are so excited to say we had an awesome first week back at school. We established procedures and got to know each other better. Students also took a nature walk outside, completed a "Student Bingo" game, discussed the work cycle, and completed their first jobs of the school year! We are looking forward to a great year in Lower Elementary!

Next week, first graders will receive math presentations and complete jobs covering place value, telling time to the hour, and addition facts. Second graders will review addition, tell time to the 5 minute mark, and review skip counting. Third graders will review all math operations, tell time to the 1 minute mark, calculate elapsed time, and review skip counting.

For language work, first graders will be introduced to ABC order and nouns. Students will also review compound words. Second graders will review ABC order to the second letter, review grammar symbols, and also review compound words. Third graders will review ABC order to the third letter, review grammar symbols, and also review compound words.

For cultural lessons, students will complete 3 science experiments which stem from our First Great Lesson: The Coming of the Universe. Students will discuss the layers of the Earth in Geography and explore the solar system in History.

There are a few housekeeping things to keep in mind :

1. Please remember that snack is one item of fruit or vegetable.

2. School dismisses at 2pm every Monday.

3. All children will need a pair of non-marking PE shoes to wear in the gym.

4. Red folders are sent home in backpacks. Please complete your child's reading log each night.

5. The first homework of the year will be sent home on Friday, August 19th. Homework is due Friday, August 26th.

Thank you all so much for allowing us to participate in your child's life! We look forward to a wonderful year learning and growing together!
