March 8-12, 2021

As we wind up the third quarter, everyone is working hard.  We also work hard to keep our voices low and our movement contained during work time so everyone can focus. Students will be choosing a woman in science to research and a state or country to find natural resources and crops. They also answered a reading comprehension activity about ocean waves. We continue to practice charts and graphs. Our poem style this week is acrostic and plural lessons are extending to -ys and -ies rules. Remember to practice memorization of math facts including all four operations as we give lessons on division. Hopefully the warm weather will stay with us for a while. Have a nice weekend.

March 1-5, 2021

I guess Mr. Groundhog didn't see his shadow and he didn't go back to sleep for six more weeks because it seems like spring is here with the weather we have had this week. It is especially nice to end the week with warm weather and to go outside for recess. We even enjoyed popsicles on Thursday to celebrate Read Across America Week and our character parade. The students are very involved with life cycles in science, stamping economic geography symbols on a map of Alabama, and learning about important women in history. Our poetry study was kicked off with "I Am" poems last week and diamante poems this week. Looking forward to continued good weather and good work. Remember to come to the Book Fair next week.

February 22 -26

What a beautiful day on which to end February. YEAH!   Everyone worked hard to finish their jobs. We had some new lessons on economic geography in Alabama, the water cycle, and African-American artists. First graders were introduced to prepositions. Second graders wrote sentences with adverbs. Third graders were introduced to interjections. Measuring angles has been fun remembering to use the inner or outer row of numbers starting from zero to get an accurate degree. Even though it wasn't a Leap Year, Ms. Genie gave a little lesson about how an extra day is added to the calendar once every four years and that is her birthday so we had doughnuts. Hopefully Spring is on its way and we can get outside more and more.
