Week in Review: January 11 - 15

We had another great in Lower Elementary! Students enjoyed the week and worked very hard!

For language jobs, first graders were introduced to verbs, formed contractions, and explored the dictionary by using guide words. Second graders explored comparative adjectives, reviewed homographs by using a pronunciation key, and formed contractions. Third graders explored helping verbs, reviewed homographs by using a pronunciation key, and formed contractions.

For math jobs, first graders has continued work with multiplication, became familiar with standard and metric vocabulary for various lengths, and were introduced to different types of fractions (proper, improper, and mixed number). Second graders solved subtraction problems using the bead frame, reviewed standard and metric measurement vocabulary for various lengths, and reviewed subtracting fractions. Third graders had further practice with all math operations, reviewed standard and metric measurement vocabulary for various lengths, were introduced to multiplying fractions, and were also introduced to multiplying a binomial by a binomial in preparation for exploring the distributive property of multiplication.

For cultural jobs, students continued their study of the American Revolution by viewing a Powerpoint presentation. Students also continued their study of plants by exploring the parts of a plant.

REMINDERS

No School -There will be no school on Monday, January 18th due the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday. 

Parent's Night - Parent's Night will be held on Thursday, January 28th! All are invited to this special evening where the students become the teachers and showcase particular jobs that they have enjoyed working on in Lower Elementary.

January Birthday Celebration will be held this Friday, January 22nd. This date had to be rescheduled from earlier in the month. Please send a treat with your child if he or she has any allergies or dietary restrictions.
