Week in Review: January 5th - 8th

We had a wonderful week back from the holiday break!

We were excited to learn that Mrs. Catherine had her twin girls, Sidney and Cameron, on New Year's Eve! We were also excited to welcome two new students to Lower Elementary. Zarria is a first year who will be in Classroom 2 and Beltran is a first year from Madrid, Spain who will be in Classroom 3! Welcome to JBMA!

We also spent the week completing several community building activities and outlined our goals for the classroom in 2016.  We look forward to an amazing semester!

For language jobs this week, first graders reviewed antonyms, synonyms, homophones, homographs, and homonyms. Second grade students reviewed irregular plural nouns, homographs, and matched adverbs to the appropriate verb. Third graders reviewed editing marks, suffixes, and prefixes.

For math jobs this week, first graders worked with multiplication facts. Second graders, were introduced to subtraction and worked with subtraction facts. Third graders, worked with all math operations and reviewed how to read data found in circle graphs. All students collected data as a class and then compiled that information into a bar graph.

For cultural jobs, students began a unit on Colonial America in History and Geography. Students were also introduced to the Plant Kingdom chart as an introduction to a unit on plants.

Next week, students will work on contractions, math operations, fractions, grammar, linear measurement vocabulary, and much more! We look forward to a great week!
