Week in Review: February 21st-24th

Students had a great short week in Lower Elementary! They enjoyed the warmer weather and sunshine! Students also enjoyed a special presentation from Dr. Denny (Sara Elizabeth's Mom). She talked about her job as an orthodontist in conjunction with National Dental Health Month (which is February).

For language arts jobs, first grade students reviewed singular possessive nouns, were introduced to homonyms, and wrote sentences with verbs. Second graders reviewed singular and plural possessive nouns, completed a pronoun job, and reviewed homonyms. Third graders reviewed singular and plural possessive nouns, symbolized sentences, and reviewed homonyms.

For math jobs, first grade students solved large subtraction problems, identified missing variables in equations, solved fraction word problems, and practiced skip counting. Second graders reviewed division, identified missing variables in equations, and solved fraction word problems. Third graders solved problems with all math operations, identified missing variables in equations, solved fraction word problems, and identified factors of numbers.

For cultural lessons, students began a study of the Harlem Renaissance and identified several of the famous African Americans who contributed poetry, music, and other art during this time period. In science, students continued their study of invertebrates by comparing and contractions flatworm (Platyhelminthes) and roundworms (Nematodes).

Dr. Denny brought in models of braces and retainers!
