We had a fantastic week back from break, despite the low temperatures! We enjoyed Mrs. Sue's science lesson exploring ice and sound out by the pond!

For language jobs this week,  First grade students reviewed common and proper nouns, prefixes, adding -es to make words plural, and analogies. Second grade students reviewed common and proper nouns, adding -es or -ies to make works plural, analogies, and prefixes.  Third grade students reviewed possessive nouns, prefixes, syllables, and analogies.

For math jobs this week,  First grade students reviewed counting coins, rounding to the tens and hundreds place, adding larger numbers with and without regrouping, and telling time to the hour, half hour, and quarter hour. Second grade students reviewed writing number words, rounding, and time to the minute. Third grade students writing number words, place value, rounding to the thousands place, subtraction over zero, and elapsed time. All students reviewed how to create Roman Numerals.

In Geography, students reviewed the names of land and water forms. Students created a booklet and labeled land and water forms such as peninsula, gulf, lake, isthmus, cape, and bay!

In History, students began a two month unit on Peace Education. Students watched a short video and discussed what peach meant to them. They then heard a story about Jane Goodall, who works as a UN Messenger of Peace and is considered to be the world's foremost expert on chimpanzees.

In Science, students began a short unit on magnetism. Students learned about magnetic force, attraction and repulsion of similar and opposite magnetic poles, and discovered that the largest magnet is actually the Earth itself!

Next week, students will be hard at work! They will explore estimation and magnets, practice presentation skills and dictionary skills, and begin working with various forms of measurement.
