Week in Review: January 26-30

We had an amazing week in Lower Elementary! In addition to preparing for Parent's Night, the students were also busy at work on language, math, and cultural jobs!

For language jobs, first graders practiced with suffixes, worked on their dictionary skills, and identified the basic story elements ( character, setting, plot, problem, solution) of some common fairy tales. Second graders wrote sentences with suffixes, worked with adverbs, and identified plural possessive nouns. Third graders identified some cause and effect scenarios from their Junior Great Books story, worked with pronouns, and wrote sentences with plural possessive nouns.

For math jobs, first graders worked with multiplication facts and measured items using inches and 1/2  inches. Second graders solved subtraction over zero problems, added and subtracted fractions, and measured the length of items in the classroom. Third graders reviewed math operations, added/subtracted/multiplied fractions, and measured objects to the nearest 1/2 inch.

For cultural jobs, students continued their research of Argentina. Students used books and the internet to research facts using the Fundamental Needs of Humans chart as a guide.

Third grade students enjoyed preforming a play for the other students based on their Junior Great Books story, "The Princess and the Beggar". They were very excited to rehearse, find costumes and props, and preform the play for their classmates!

Next week, students will review telling time, count coins, complete word problems, and work with thesauruses! It will be a great week!
