Week in Review: February 24th-28th

We had another great week in Lower Elementary! We were busy at work!

For language jobs this week,  First grade students discussed the difference between a phrase and a sentence, worked with verbs, and reviewed ABC order and syllables. Second grade students compared the differences between homophones/homographs/and homonyms, wrote sentences with prepositions, and reviewed ABC order and syllables.  Third grade students reviewed homophones/homographs/and homonyms, completed a pronoun chart, and reviewed ABC order and syllables.

For math jobs this week,  First grade students had continued practice with multiplication, determined if larger numbers were odd or even, and answered questions by using data from bar graphs. Second grade students had more practice with subtraction, reviewed even and odd, and worked with expanded notation. Third grade students worked with division, reviewed even and odd, and were introduced to scientific notation.

In Science, students began a study of heat. We watched as Ms. Rachel inflated a balloon using hot air trapped in a beaker! We discussed vocabulary terms such as temperature, conductor, and insulator.

In History, students continued their research on the famous African American of their choice. Students will research the childhood, education, and contributions of the person they chose.

Next week, students will be busy at work reading sight words, finishing jobs, and completing third quarter reviews. Our third grade students are very excited to go to Camp McDowell from Monday to Wednesday.!
